نحن في سفارة الولايات المتحدة نعلم أن كل الأنظار كانت متجهة صوب الأحداث في أمريكا في الأيام القليلة الماضية . أن حرية التعبير هي عنصر حاسم في ديمقراطية حيوية وفعالة وهذه الحرية إلى جانب حرية التجمع السلمي هي مكرسة في دستور الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ومع ذلك هنالك من قد يستخدم حق الاحتجاج السلمي كغطاء للفوضى والنشاط الإجرامي هذا السلوك غير مقبول وقد تم إدانته على نطاق واسع من قادة من مختلف الأطياف السياسية . نحن دولة قوانين وأولئك الذين حاولوا عرقلة عمل الممثلين المنتخبين في أمريكا سيخضعون للمساءلة . الأهم من ذلك على الرغم من محاولة تعطيل الإجراءات أكمل الكونجرس العملية الدستورية لتأكيد الفائز في الانتخابات الرئاسية في تشرين الثاني 2020 وسيتم حفل التنصيب للرئيس المنتخب جوزيف بايدن في 20 كانون الثاني .
نحن نعلم أنه في العراق تماما كما في الولايات المتحدة غالبا ما تتداخل السياسة مع المشاعر الراسخة ويمكن أن تكون قوة جامحة ومسببة للانقسام كما نعلم أنه على الرغم من الاختلافات في الرأي السياسي فإن العراقيين مثل الأمريكيين يسعون جميعا إلى نفس الشيء : بناء أمة أفضل لأنفسهم وأطفالهم . بالنسبة لنا كأميركيين اسعدتنا الملاحظات من الحلفاء والشركاء حول العالم حول إيمانهم بقوة ديمقراطيتنا . نتطلع إلى مواصلة عملنا هنا بينما نواصل مساعدة شركائنا العراقيين في بناء عراق آمن ومستقر ومزدهر .

We at the U.S. Embassy know that all eyes have been on the events in America in the past few days. Freedom of speech is a critical component of a vibrant, functioning democracy, and that freedom, along with the freedom to peaceably assemble, is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. However, there are some who would use the right to peaceful protest as a cover for anarchy and criminal activity. This behavior is unacceptable, and has been broadly condemned by leaders from across the political spectrum. We are a nation of laws and those who attempted to disrupt the work of America’s elected representatives will be held to account. Most importantly, despite the attempt to disrupt the proceedings, Congress completed the constitutional process of affirming the winner of the November 2020 presidential elections and President-elect Joseph Biden will be inaugurated on January 20 .
We know that in Iraq, just as in the United States, politics often overlap with deeply held emotions and can be a strong and divisive force. We also know that despite differences of political opinion, Iraqis, like Americans, all seek the same thing: to build a better nation for themselves and their children. For us as Americans, we have been heartened by notes from allies and partners around the world about their faith in the strength of our democracy. We look forward to continuing our work here as we continue to help our Iraqi partners build an Iraq that is secure, stable, and prosperous .
